One World Through Cooperative Finance
International Credit Union Day – October 17, 2024
International Credit Union Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognize hard work and share member experiences. International Credit Union Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948.
The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged.
The History of Credit Unions
Today also marks an important opportunity to learn about the history of credit unions and the creation of International Credit Union Day. From the early ideas of pooling and loaning money back in 1840s Germany to the first American credit unions in the early 1900s, there are certainly a lot of milestones to look back on.
Celebrate With Us!
